Erik Lindgren

Since 1980, Lindgren has been a founding member of the new music ensemble Birdsongs of the Mesozoic that Billboard Magazine described as “cacophony meets classicism in a mesmerizing instrumental venture into the space age jungle.” The quartet has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe and held residencies at Dartmouth College, Emory University, Duke, UNCA, Massachusetts College of Art, and Kennesaw State University. Birdsongs has recorded eleven CDs for the Rykodisc, Cuneiform, Ace of Hearts, NEARfest, and PEL labels. The group has collaborated with Duplex Planet editor/NPR correspondent David Greenberger, on 1001 Real Apes and a CD of that project came out in 2006. Also in 2006, the group collaborated with Atlanta bass baritone Oral Moses and released a CD of Extreme Spirituals. In 2009, Cuneiform released a 2 CD retrospective Dawn of the Cycads which contains Birdsongs’ complete Ace of Hearts recordings circa 1983–’87 plus unreleased material. This release was supported by an East Coast tour that summer which included original member Roger Miller.

Since 1979, Lindgren has run Sounds Interesting, a state-of-the-art 24-track digital studio and commercial music production company. Credits include scores for all three networks, PBS, Polaroid, Boston Globe, Prentice Hall, and Eastpak. His passions include travel, horseback riding, lap swimming, and record collecting.
